Why We Include It

A Slow Night in the Valley

Most of Bhutan's best-known lodges sit in or near the western towns. Gangtey Lodge is different: it looks across the wide, glacial Phobjikha Valley, a short walk from Gangtey Monastery, and the pace slows the moment you arrive. Suites are built in the style of traditional farmhouses, with wood-burning stoves, heated stone floors and roll-top baths set by large windows. Its small scale, its setting and its Two MICHELIN Keys are why it appears in two of our itineraries.

Is It Right for You

Who It Suits

A good fit if you want

A small, quiet lodge with a strong sense of place. Time to walk the Gangtey Nature Trail, visit the monastery, and do very little else. A winter journey timed with the black-necked cranes.

You may prefer another lodge if

You want a large resort with extensive facilities, or a base close to Paro or Thimphu. Gangtey is a half-day drive from the western towns, so it works best as part of a longer route. We can suggest alternatives.

Gangtey Lodge holds Two MICHELIN Keys, according to the MICHELIN Guide's Bhutan listing.
